The Retina Service provides the best diagnostic and therapeutic technology in diseases affecting the retina and vitreous including diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachment, trauma and macular degeneration.
Digital fluorescein angiography provides high resolution, detailed and instantaneous documentation of retinal disorders. High quality ultrasonography gives an accurate diagnostic evaluation of the posterior structures when the retina is not visualized.
Ocular electroretinography and electroculography are used to test retinal cell function. Visual evoked potential is available to evaluate optic nerve disorders. The high resolution Optical Coherence Tomographer (OCT) provides excellent documentation of retinal structures. Innovative therapy with anti-VEGF agents (Avastin and Lucentis) is also applied to treat various types of retinal disorders.
Innovative laser surgery with multiple selective wavelengths is performed to treat different retinal layers in retinal vascular diseases and macular degeneration. The recently developed photodynamic therapy laser (PDT) is available to treat the wet form of mainly macular degeneration.
State of the art microsurgical techniques are performed by experienced retina subspecialists to treat retinal detachment, diabetic retinopathy, venous occlusions and macular holes.
